This is really funny.
I started this topic about all these brave and tough so-called mountain men today. And only seven camps attend the Santa Fe Trails Winter Survival Rendezvous. Apparently the weather report of a couple inches of snow and some cold temps scared them tough "BOYS" off.
What happens immediately? The post turns to religion and proper period clothes
Well, the 3rd Santa Fe Trails Winter Survival Rendezvous is going to be scheduled, I think. Fortunately, for those that attended it was a week of fun, shooting, prizes, great food, some rowdiness, and friendship!
I guess we'll just create a new meaning for tough in the 21st century

Well when I was younger I can remember archery hunting in just a chamois shirt at 28* so a jacket wouldn't get in the way of my bow string. I also remember hunting in PA's late flintlock season with snow up to my "boys" and ice on my moustache and being out from dawn to dusk.
These days however, as much as I love being outdoors, a nice cozy bed is awful tempting when the temps drop way down below the freezing point! (even with thinsulite clothing and boots)
Some might say I'm turning into a wuss in my old age. So be it. I shot enough game in my career. I still love shooting, especially muzzleloaders. My focus lately is having my grandson hunt with me a let him shoot the deer or whatever.

Well I can tell you there were a majority there in their mid to late 60's.
There were a mix of 20 to 40 year olds.
There was a young man there that showed up from Texas. He had his synthetic stock muzzle loader with him and his pretty wife. Both dressed in todays street cloths. The young fellow asked the booshway if he could also pay and do the competition shooting. The Booshway looked at him, and told him that's what we're here for, to have fun, and you're welcome to the competition. They all headed to the shoot match and enjoyed the day. Not one person complained about the fellow not wearing period clothing. I believe he'll be back at the next rendezvous!
Therefore, I believe the old mountain men weren't looking for comfort......just freedom.

Who won the rifle in the raffle? I haven't seen who won it or if it has even been given out.
