Balls in sabots Empty Balls in sabots

I was going through my supply box and saw I still had some 454 round balls from a pistol I owned. Looking online, I read some guys use that size ball in black sabots in their 50cal rifles. I have a T/C Hawken flintlock in 50cal and a 50cal grey hawk. Also, a Renegade in 54cal. I'd like to get some opinions on this subject. Safe to do or stay away !

54, I personally don't see an issue with it. They may be pretty tight going down and you might have trouble keeping them in the sabot and coming off the charge which colud be a dangerous situation. If you plan on doing that be cautious. I had a .54 years ago and inherited about 1000 balls from a friend. I melted what I had left after selling it and made balls and bullets for my other muzzies.

Thanks Bronko22000 for the reply. That's part of what I read online. That the ball COULD come out of the sabot. My thinking, without knowing for sure, is the walls of the sabot would be tight against the ball, but there's always Murphy's law just waiting for an opportunity!
