Pressure signs??
Hi all just wondering how can you tell when things are getting a little hot, with your loads? No flattened primers, cases to measure, or stiff case extraction .
Thanks guys!

Re: Pressure signs??
Blackpowder is totally different than Smokeless powder, Real Blackpowder doesn’t build Pressure like Smokeless powder does. Stay in your manufactures recommended powder charge range and you are Good

My post above didn’t really explain anything, I know exactly what you mean by Smokeless pressure signs, I have been handloading Centerfire since i was 14-15 Years old, 35 years or more, You can EASILY see pressure signs in the Brass Case as you increase the Powder Charge, a 1/2 a Grain makes a HUGE Difference with Smokeless powder. Blackpowder On the other hand, I have shot up to 180 Grains of Swiss 2F in my Old Navy Arms Hawken Hunter Rifle (These particular rifles were built for it) I was shooting a 560 Grain Minie Bullet, i ended up with 1,570 Fps, Not very impressive for 180 Grains of Powder, When you compare that to say my .45s Shooting 530 Grain Bullets at 1,400 Fps with 90-95 Grains. Real Blackpowder is pretty unimpressive when it comes to Hotrod Velocity

Re: Pressure signs??
Blackpowder also has a point of diminishing returns. The increment of velocity doesn't run as linear with extra powder as smokeless. You'll get to a point where you're adding more powder for almost no gain.

Re: Pressure signs??
One pressure sign I experienced when I first started shooting my 50 calibers 50 years ago using FFF powder. 80 grain would blow the hammer back to half cock. FF does not do that.
