Black powder 22 lr loads
I'm wanting to load some 22 lr with black I got some primed cases from cutting edge and some of their cnc bullets and plan on using them in my Lee shavers 22 insert in my c-sharps rifle for 22 silhouettes so far I'm seeing 4 grains 3 or 4 f black for loads anyone done this before and had good success?

Re: Black powder 22 lr loads
Not done this myself, however I've read of original loading. From the book,"cartridges of the world" chapter 10 American Rim fire cartridges pg.380, the 22short- 29grn bullet, 4gr fine black powder. The 22long-29grn bullet,5grns black powder...smokeless powder for a time in standard and high velocity loads. The long rifle load was a 40grn bullet and 5 grains black powder. The short was first introduced in 1857 for Smith&Wesson revolvers. The others came along in 1871 and the LR in 1888 Stevens catalog. Hope it helps you out. Although I would caution, again as always load carefully and No airspace between powder and bullet base. Good luck. Look forward to read of your venture.

If you have a revolver, I would try them out there first to test. Then try in the rifle insert.
