I've been using the .44 255 kaido bullet in my pietta 1858. Can get 30 grains of goex 3f under it. I'm working on my Ruger Old Army to dial it in for these boolitzs

What kind of accuracy are you folks getting with the conicals? I have never had much luck with them, the balls seem to shoot better for me.

Conical moulds, midway Lee are inexpensive to start. Tyres several. They are as good as rb's but don't over charge the chambers. Seemed in a 44 18gr are about the best. + - 1grain. Try them.

All the info I've read on these revolvers is that you use .451 - .454" diameter balls and bullets in the 44. Shouldn't be too hard to find either bullets or a mold for them.

The .454 ball should work fine for most.
The only conical mold I have is the Kaido 255 grain. Which is a hunting bullet. Type Kaido bullets into YouTube should get a lot of results. Also, duelist1954 has great cap and ball videos.
I've fallen head first into the cap & ball rabbit hole. Watch your step, not sure there's a way out.

The Kaido bullet will shoot really high out of a factory cap & ball revolver. Which requires a much taller front sight. Rabbit hole.
Also, I am finding my pietta 1860 has chambers that are different diameters and way smaller than the bore diameter. This causes poor accuracy when loading hotter loads. Keep it at 20 grains it shoots o.k. This revolver needs all chambers reamed to .454 which would be .002 over bore diameter.
Once reamed the .454 ball will be to small. Will have to switch to a .457 ball. Rabbit hole.
My pietta 1858 shoots better. The chambers are more consistent and not as small. Accuracy with the Kaido bullet is decent. Shoots 5 inches high and 5 inches left at 30 yards with 30 grains of goex 3f. This revolver needs a dovetail cut for a new front sight to allow for adjustments. Rabbit hole.
My Ruger OA has inconsistent chambers which will require reaming the chambers to .454. Bore diameter is .452. The largest chamber is .454 the smallest is.451 this causes poor accuracy and problems loading conicals. I can get 35 grains of swiss 3f behind the Kaido 255 in this ROA. Will try Triple 7 3f next. Rabbit hole.
My pietta 1851 .36 caliber with a .375 ball and 25 grains of 3f goex is Awesome! No modifications needed.
I also have a pietta .36 sheriffs model and a uberti 1861 pocket police. Both shoot decent.
Had no intent on owning more than one cap & ball revolver when I purchased my 1851 pietta. But, they are just to darn fun!
