I hear ya, I recently bought 5 or 6 2X4s from Home Depot and they were 7 Dollars and Change, Closer to 8 dollars
I ended up buying a chainsaw mill, i am making some nice Lumber with it, and enjoying doing it

2X6s 12 Feet Long are 25 a piece
I saw a real sturdy looking portable saw mill at Woodland Mills. Price seems reasonable. Accessories available for longer length logs.
$2500.....bears some serious thought.
