When I was younger I couldn't understand why God allowed the evil one to rule over the world but now I believe He did this so He could see who would truly follow Him. Deerstalker if your niece was a true believer the suffering she faced on this world is nothing compared to the glory she shares in God's kingdom.

Lucifers rebellion was based on the premise that God was a tyrant that forced his will upon creation.
when Eve was deceived and Adam chose to disobey he claimed the lordship of this world.
Only by becoming one of us, and suffering all that sin causes, could the Creator redeem this creation, Mankind. Lucifer then claimed that given time he and mankind could evolve into gods.
the misery and suffering in this world are the results and a lesson for the universe, soon to end.
