TC Firehawk loads
My good buddy acquired a TC Firehawk that’s pristine. .50 cal.,#11 caps, walnut stock, open sights. No QLA! I was asked what a starting hunting load for this rifle would be. So I’m putting this out there for someone who favors this combination. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guy’s!

The fire hawk if I remember correctly has a 1:30 something twist so it’s good for conicals or sabots, start with what ever conical bullet or sabot and maybe 80+- gr of 2f or 70gr of 3f and see and go from there, as far as bullet weight every gun is a little different my 50 likes anything 300gr and up

Does he want to shoot Big Lead, or lighter stuff?
As for powder, I am a Diehard Swiss 2F Powder Fan. That said, I am also very impressed with this Triple Seven 3F Powder. If i we’re gonna shoot a Substitute powder it would be Hodgdon’s Triple Seven, I am looking forward to doing a LOT more with it coming up. 70 Grains By weight of Triple Seven 3F makes for a Serious Load, i got 1,471 Fps with my 430 Grain i Bullet and 70 Grains by Weight of Triple Seven 3F, My goal is 1,350 to no more than 1,450 with my Pure Lead Bullets

Re: TC Firehawk loads
I believe he’s looking for a lighter bullet that would be effective on whitetails at 100 yards. Swiss 2f would be the powder. I do have a .50 TC Maxiball mold that I thought I might cast up a few and give them a try. I’m not sure what weight that mold is as I never use it.

The .50 Maxi Ball is 370 Grains, Make sure and try a Group with ONLY the Bottom Groove Lubed

Lewis, I do remember you mentioning that in the past. I was going to look back to find about lube but thanks for saving me the effort. Any particular lube for that bullet? I have some of Ed’s blue I’ll try on them.

Believe it or not, Try a Group with Straight Crisco, It is really thin stuff, So Just do your best to fill the Bottom Groove. I have had best luck with a Softer Lube. Bullshop’s NASA is my all time Favorite Bullet Lube, after i modify it that is

I have a Thunderhawk which I think is very similar. I use 92 grains Pyrodex with a Green MMP Sabot and 300 grain 44 XTP. It is quite the tack driver. Shot a 200 lb hog two year ago and it was a bang/flop type of deal.

I run a 300gr bullet with 85gr volume (67gr on the scale) of 777 2f and have bullet holes touching at 100 yards recoil is pleasant for me. Same charge with a 250gr gave 2-2.5” group same yardage

300 gr xtp mp sabot and 85-100 gr of pyrodex has shot good in all of mine.. also the 240 gr xtp same loads.. also use goex/swiss 2f or 3f. Have also used 777 with decent results.
