Northern Pike ice fishing
Here are a few Northern Pike my Dad caught through the ice here several years ago, Both fish were REALLY CLOSE to breaking the Idaho State Record at the Time, These 2 Fish were 36 and 37 Pounds

I have never eaten pike. I hear they are good pickled or canned I think. I live in east Texas about the closest fish we have is the chain pickerel. Nowhere near that size.

These Northern Pike are REALLY good eating fish, They are a bit tricky to learn how to Fillet them, they have a Row of Y Bones that you need to Remove, They take a little extra time to figure them out, But they are definitely worth it

And since I don’t like hand cranking out the holes in the ice I made an adapter for my 1/2” impact. The rod is 7/8”stainless I machined it on a lathe to .710” so it fits precisely in the auger but and drilled holes in everything. The hard part was drilling through the socket and the stainless rod together so I could pin it with a roll pin. I may still weld the socket to rod but good enough for now and the 2x4 is there to prevent the auger from falling through the ice in case it ever becomes disconnected from the impact. The top pic and middle pic are out of order for some reason

I bought an 8” Eskimo Pistol Bit, and a Milwaukee Hammer Drill, I ABSOLUTELY Love it! I can drill a Bunch of Holes FAST, This is a Super nice setup, But also Expensive, I am in this Rig for about 500 Bucks
But i am happy i bought it, I can use the Milwaukee Drill for Anything, anytime of the Year

And i bought one of these Eskimo Quickfish 3i Insulated Pop-Up Ice Shelters, I REALLY like this thing as well
Its a bit heavy, But it’s well worth it when you get it setup and Sitting in it, out of any Wind

Looks good Ivan
This Milwaukee Hammer Drill i bought delivers up to 1,200 in-lbs of torque and up to 2,000 RPM, providing faster drilling speed under heavy load. This thing will hurt ya if you are not holding on tight, and prepared for it

I’ll be giving her a spin this weekend and maybe next too. Hopefully my buddy don’t back out again, this is also an 8” bit too I can’t see the use of a smaller hole fishing for what I catch

No time like the presentI got the fish all cleaned up took I think 15 minutes. Where they were frozen from being on the ice I filleted them a little different saved a bunch of time and virtually no lost meat either
Do you use a regular Fillet Knife, or an Electric one? I have always used Regular Fillet Knives but would like to try an Electric one someday

I use a regular fillet knife. I’ve had an electric one but I didn’t feel it was as precise enough for me. Don’t get me wrong it make short work of the back bones. But sometimes you pick up a few tricks as you go and a regular fillet knife is faster for me anyways
