1:20 .45 cal Hoyt barrel
This was my virgin run with my new relined barrel from Bob Hoyt. Its a .45 cal Hawken barrel with a 1:20 twist. During this range session I was also testing some bullets EdMehlig sent me (I bullet design). THANKS ED.[
I installed a globe front sight and planned on putting a vernier tang sight on it but my sight would not go down far enough. I ordered a higher globe sight for use with the vernier but in the interim I installed my Lyman 57 SML sight.
I shot one of my 350 gr FP conicals at the target and then made a sight adjustment (impact was the lowest one on the target) I then shot 70 gr each of FFFg, Pyro P, and Truple 7 at 50 yards. The T7 showing the most promise.
I pulled the target and took it out to 100 yards and fired 3 shots with the I bullet and the 70 gr of T7. Group was about 3". OK but not real good. Then using the same 70 gr of T7 and my 350 gr FP cast bullet I put the 3 just above the bull. I think This is going to be my load. At this point I don't seen any reason the invest in an I bullet mold the way mine shoot.

Looks pretty good to me for first time out. 100 yd group ain't too shabby. Probably only get better with the new rear site.
I live only about 40 minutes from Bobby Hoyt's place. I pass by close to his shop with my work travels all the time. Need to stop in sometime to pay him a visit and pick his brain one of these days.

I think if I had it to do over again I would have gotten a 1:22 twist for the 350 gr bullets.

Remember Lew has a Rice 1-20” twist bbl and shoots 80gr of Swiss 2F and gets Fantastic groups with his 45-340I bullet.

Ed I'll be heading out again once I get this new batch sorted and lubed. Its not a fair comparison judging the 2 bullets from just one group.
Maybe I'll break open a new can of Swiss for the next go around.

That's gorgeous Ed. I don't think I'd ever get that with open sights.

Thanks, but I believe the stars and planets were all aligned that day.
