In search of 50 caliber cast conicals in the 250gr range
In search of 50 caliber cast conicals in the 250gr range. Power Belt makes them, but they want so much for them! They shoot good, but at $25 or $30 for 15 is ridiculous! I'm wanting to stay in the lower weight range and with a nice arrow dynamic look. I'm shooting them out of my TC Scout pistol. I haven't found any anywhere else. I realize 250 grains makes it a little short, but Power Belt has managed. Thanks!

Well Bryan if you want to continue using your Powerbelts for hunting an want something to plink with get yourself some cast .44 or .45 cal bullets and the appropriate sabots and shoot away. I have hundreds of 240 gr .44 cal bullets that I would have gladly sent you but I'm in FL until late May and they're in PA.
You an pick them up and any online store like Midway, Midsouth shooters supply, and others (if available these days) I see midway has some on sale.
For the 44 cal you will need Harvester green sabots and for the 45 cal the black. If I were you I'd get the crush rib sabots in the correct size.
I shoot Hornady 300 gr XTPs out of my .50 sometimes but they do make a 240 gr.
Accurate molds makes a good mold and they make a full bore conical in 250 and 275 gr. If you decide to cast your own and go with them read the post about ordering a mold from Accurate.
Good luck

Actually I have some, but the range I belong to does not allow sabots or jacketed on it's range due to the mild steel metal targets etc.

Hmmm....well then I guess your at the mercy of casting your own. Or, I remembered as I was typing this you can try these if you can find them:

Another option is trying some 250 gr REAL bullets. I'm sure some guys here have some on hand they may send you to try before buying a mold. I do but won't be home until late May.

Yes they shoot pretty good out of a 1:48 twist barrel like the T/C Hawken.

Well just maybe they stopped making them. If you can hang in there until late May I can send you some .50 cal 250 REAL bullets unless someone here can send some to you.

I've had both the 250 and 320 real molds for my Traditions buck hunter pistol so far the 250gr shoots really well or well enough 2" at 25yds. with a 1/28 twist.

The Buffalo Bullet Company has been defunct for a long time now. He supposedly was going to resurrect it somewhere but that seems to have fizzled out.

Bigsky just curious why are you set on 250 grain conicals have you thought of shooting something heavier. Correct me if im wrong I believe the scout to have a 1/21" twist so might try 320-350gr the selection greatly increases. Unless you are sensitive to recoil.

I was just in sportsmans warehouse and saw 275gr maxihunters if that helps although you are still buying them.

Bryan, Dasblanc has a point. I forgot about those. I used to use them a lot in my .50 cal Hawken 1:48 twist and they shot pretty darn good. Killed a few deer with them too.

I haven't checked into a mold for that one yet so that may be an option as well.
