I picked up a 12" Buckhunter Pro 50 cal when they first came out in 2003 or so and it has been a project pistol ever since. It came with a screw on muzzle brake, 1:28 twist and plastic garbage sights so I found some TC Contender sights off ebay and did a 3# trigger job. Now for the project part of Getting it to shoot well enough for hunting elk. Ive cast several conicals like 390 Lyman plains, 370 maxi ball, 250 and 320 reals but only marginal accuracy with the Lee 250's useing 65-75gr T777 2"@ 25yds although I did load the 390gr lymans w 80gr of t7 for elk 6+" @25yds. So I'm wondering who else has played with this pistol seriously and what were the results. Oh by the way could you amagine what a 420 and 460gr No Excuses with 75gr of T7 feels like? It will be quite a while before I try that again.

Oh brother I can well imagine. I used to own a Magnum Research BFR in .45-70! That revolver was a beast with full house 405 gr bullets. But wow was it accurate. I took it out bear hunting once or twice but never got a chance to see how it performed.

Its no so bad if you are shooting at critter but practicing is a whole nother story. I've been shooting big pistols for 30yrs and it still gives you something to think about. My main pistol is chambered in 35 whelen AI for bear.

The 35 Whelen is a great overlooked hunting cartridge. (the poor man's magnum) I used to have a 98 Mauser chambered in it long ago.
Besides my everyday carry pistols, for hunting I use my Taurus Hunter 44 mag, Encore .243 or Encore 50 cal muzzleloader. When hunting with a rifle or muzzleloader I usually carry my Taurus Lite 44 mag. That's a 5 round revolver with a 4" barrel. I shoot 44 spl or light mag loads out of it because it is a real wrist wrencher with full house 44 mag loads.
