Building a .410 White....
Ok, got tired of waiting and searching for a White .410. I have two Super 91's, a .504 and a .451. Wanted a .410 Super, but no luck locating one.
Got a good deal on a Whitetail .504 for a donor rifle. Called Doc White, he had ONE .410 barrel left in stock, and it was stainless, like I needed. It will be on its way as soon as he receives my check.
1 inch OD barrel, 28 inches long.
Doc's machinist retired a couple weeks ago, but luckily, I have a good smith here only about a mile away.
The plan:
1.Remove .504 barrel to use as a template for machinist.
2. Thread .410 barrel for action and breechplug.
3. Straight taper barrel on cnc lathe, .980 down to .825 (standard Whitetail taper).
4. Cut and crown at 23" length.
5. Install barrel
6. Drill and tap for sights.
7. Add extra recoil lug at rear of action by welding a drilled and tapped pillar to the action where the rear trigger guard screw is and use action screw to secure.
8. Bead blast to satin finish.
9. Refinish the Bell and Carlson stock with a Timber Rattler hydro dip.(The stock needs refinished, or i wouldnt bother, but, why not)?
Shoot it, shoot it, shoot it...
OK, what did I miss?

Unless you are planning on mounting iron sights, wouldn't bother with drilling holes in the bbl. As the receiver has the holes already for scope bases.
Will your bbl come with one or two ramrod guides?
Get a Delrin ramrod from either Buffalo Arms or Track of the Wolf. Make sure you order it with the bullet puller and have it cut so the tip will be flush or slightly lower than the muzzle.

Well, dropped everything off at my local smith's this morning. Two months was the estimate. Also, going to remove the ramrod thimble from the .504 barrel and weld it back on the new .410. Also going to remark the barrel by laser with White label warnings, and caliber. In other words, it will look like a factory built .410 with a 23" barrel.

For me it doesn't even have to be a muzzleloader. I just love the .410 shotgun. Grouse, Quail, even turkey at fairly close range. Good fortune with your build and have tons of fun.

I too am a fan of smallbore shotguns. But this one is a rifle, .409/.410 bore, .416 groove. According to a lot of folks, the most accurate caliber White Rifles ever produced for sale.
Doc built some prototype rifles in 330/338, 350/358 and some in .368/375 (which won the 2007 Manufacturers Match).
Either way, I'm gonna be glad to get this one finished and try her out!

I know Ed, but dang it, I'm spending money like a drunken sailor.

Ive already decided to have the smith weld on a square lug at the back of the receiver so I can put drill and tap through the rear trigger guard screw hole. $
And I'm calling Doc tomorrow to see if he has a stainless ramrod ferrule to add a second one to the barrel. $
Im essentially building a 23" barrelled .410 Model 97.
Im gonna have to start mowing yards on the side to finnace all this.
